Frequently Asked Questions - Baby Sleep

Will this workshop solve my baby’s sleep problems?

Please be aware that this program does not offer a “quick fix” or guarantee that your baby will start sleeping through the night any time soon.  This workshop is designed to help you understand why babies sleep the way they do, cope with the reality of your baby’s sleep patterns and will give gentle techniques to build good sleep habits to last a lifetime.

What are the instructor’s qualifications?

Amy Vogelaar is a former midwife, Infant Massage Instructor, Lactation Educator and Counselor, BabyCalm and ToddlerCalm licensed teacher, and experienced mother of 2.  Her first baby was a “terrible” sleeper for the first year of her life, so she knows what you are going through!  That baby is now 11 years old and an excellent sleeper who looks forward to bedtime (all without cry-it-out techniques), so we promise there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Do you teach "cry-it-out" sleep training techniques?

This class does not teach sleep training, nor does it encourage cry-it-out techniques.  We look at the pros and cons of various sleep-training methods, include cry-it-out and controlled-crying, but we leave it to you to decide what methods make sense in terms of your individual baby, your unique family and your own long-term parenting goals. We do not judge parents who have tried "cry-it-out" and we firmly believe that there is no one "right" way for every family. We offer a variety of gentle techniques and suggestions to help you cope with your child's current sleep patterns and encourage healthy sleep habits for life.
